We have never closed our registration in the past ever and we are not intending to do it this time but: Since we are planning to feed you, please help us by registering as soon as you can and not wait until last minute. Apologies if you are receiving multiple copies of this email. Just trying to make sure everyone sees this. This is an invitation to participate in the "Bits, Nibbles, Bytes and Words" event at Netdev 0x13 on March 21st between 6:30 and 9 pm. If you are working on a project that is open source or on protocols that are open and tied to Linux Networking then you are eligible. We will provide either a table or a spot on a table for you at the event where you can demo or talk about your project to attendees and their companions as well as our sponsors. There will be electrical power and wifi available at the tables. This opportunity is offered free of charge to you but we have limited spots since we need time to prepare. 0x13: Reminder for Bits, Nibbles, Bytes and Words Event

The Bits, Nibbles, Bytes and Words event will be held on day 2 of Netdev 0x13 conference at the Hotel Grandium[1] in the center of Prague, on March 21st between 6:30 and 9 pm. We will be serving cocktails, bits and bites and an opportunity to network between attendees, sponsors, and open source linux networking projects. Food bits will be nibbled on, bitten into, and words (only big words, the best words!) will be exchanged! This event is open to all attendees and anyone accompanying them to the conference (family members etc. don't have to be registered). We just ask that if you are bringing someone just let the registration desk know when you pick your badge so we can plan better for food and drinks. We will have tables for sponsors for marketing and recruiting. We will also provide a table for any project that is open to make attendees aware of their work (we will send out a separate note requesting open source projects to request for space). We are pleased to announce our Netdev 0x13 keynote speaker: Alissa Cooper Alissa Cooper is the Chair of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). She has served on many roles at the IETF including on the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), as an area director of Applications and Real-Time (ART), and as chair of IANA Stewardship Coordination Group (ICG). Alissa is also a fellow at CISCO and a known advocate of privacy. Alissa is going to talk about the relationship between Open Source and the IETF. Once you have a decent open source implementation, should you really care about standardization? Are open source and open standards mutually exclusive or mutually supportive? 0x13: Introducing Industry Perspective Panel

The Industry Perspective Panel is a new session which will bring in networking industry craftsmen to discuss different topics. The primary goal is to have developers (and ops types) appreciate how Linux (networking) is used in the industry. We are not going to restrict the perspectives to be Linux only i.e a panelist does not necessarily have to use Linux in their operations, but needs to answer as to why not. The secondary goal of this session is to learn how we can do better in Linux. Both users and non-users of Linux can teach us something. The format is: - The panelist gives a presentation of their craft - questions by panelist moderator(s) - open mike to the conference At 0x13, the theme is network operations. we are looking to bring in operators of medium to large size networks of different flavors. 0x13: Moonshot, The Need for Preemptive Scheduling in Microsecond-scale Systems

That strive for microsecond-scale latencies for application level communication continues. Most purveyors of microsec solutions move datapath processing to user space so as to avoid pre-emption and have better control of latencies. Kostis Kaffes and Christos Kozyrakis argue that preemptive scheduling is infact _a good thing_. In this talk, they will describe their approach: Shinjuku Kostis and Christos will also raise the question and discuss whether these user space approaches are incrementally building full-featured operating system kernels.
