We are honored to have Brighten Godfrey as our keynote speaker for 0x19!
Brighten is currently a Professor in the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He co-founded and served as CTO of network verification pioneer Veriflow which was acquired by VMware (now Broadcom, where Brighten still serves part-time). Brighten has a strong background in networked systems and algorithms and has received multiple awards for his work.
In this keynote talk, Brighten asserts that, while networks are essential infrastructure they are complex and hard to fully understand, even for experts. This complexity makes it difficult to ensure reliable performance.
Brighten argues that Machine Learning(ML) can be put to use to analyze and understand complex network systems and improve their robustness. Brighten will further discuss using ML as an "adversary" to find weaknesses in networked environments where congestion control implementations perform poorly, and help to automatically diagnose performance problems in distributed cloud applications.
